Nineteen year-old Zach A has spent the past seven years in Missouri’s foster care system, and has found his voice as an active stakeholder and advocate for those in similar situations. Zach is involved in both his local and state Youth Advisory Council, actively participating in meetings for over a year and also providing respectful, thoughtful feedback via e-mail communication.

Zach experienced two years of residential care prior to being placed in a more traditional foster care placement, and brings this expertise to the council. A supportive adult said of one event that made Zach stand out in her mind, “On September 11th, during our meeting he organized a memorial for the victims of 9/11 on his own and one other state Youth Advisory Board member. Zach wants to go to the Army and takes pride in belonging to the ROTC.”

Zach is committed to public service and plans to join the military upon graduation. We’re proud of Zach’s commitment to his brothers and sisters of the system, and his commitment to his country.
