Kindred Matters is a nonprofit organization serving separated siblings and resource families primarily throughout the state of Oregon. Kindred Matters offers a variety of programs for young people living separately from their siblings including Sibling Camp and KINnect events.Since bringing Sibling Camp programs to the Northwest in 2006, nearly 3,000 young people have been served. Two sessions of Sibling Camp are held each summer. One session being a weekend residential camp program and the other being a week long residential camp program. Both programs are designed specifically to provide siblings with opportunities to make positive, childhood memories together, despite living separated. Activities at camp often include an all-camp birthday party, carnival night, sibling photos, campfires, arts and crafts, swimming, boating, rock climbing, archery, and so much more.Kindred Matters Sibling Camp has proven to be a powerful intervention for siblings living separated. In 2018, 97% of campers reported making positive memories with their siblings at camp and 85% reported that attending camp made their sibling relationship stronger. Beyond that, 92% reported that their time at camp made them more hopeful about their futures.Kindred Matters also hosts weekend sibling connection activities known as KINnect events throughout the state of Oregon. KINnect Events are free and occur on typically on Fridays, Saturdays or Sundays for 2-3 hours. Events include an activity (such as swimming, bowling, arts and crafts, outdoor adventures, skating) and a meal. At this time, events are occurring during the school year on a bi-monthly basis in the greater Portland, Salem, Eugene and Bend areas.
