About this resource
Ombudsman is a Swedish word that means "representative" or "agent." Ombudsman or Child Advocates were established within states and/or Child Welfare to investigate complaints, concerns, or violations of children right's while in foster care.
If you are not feeling emotionally, spiritually, or physically ready to recover and grow after foster care or after working with child welfare staff, the Florida Ombudsman's Office wants to hear from you! What Florida's Children Ombudsman Can Do:
Listen and be a voice for children and youth
Take complaints about placement, care, or services without fear of retribution
Serve as a resource to identify and explain relevant policy or procedures
What the Children’s Ombudsman Cannot Do:
Respond to emergencies or investigate allegations of abuse or neglect
Investigate, challenge, or overturn court-ordered decisions or provide legal advice
Investigate complaints about a Guardian
The Children’s Ombudsman confirms they will protect the confidentiality of the complainant’s identity to the extent allowed under the law.
