The Family First and Prevention Services Act Finds Hope in the Continuing Resolution

As you all remember, back in 2016, we were only votes away from witnessing what many would have considered the largest transformation the child welfare system this county has seen in years. With very little fanfare on January 4, 2017, day two of the 115th Congress, the House of Representatives sent a signal to us all by reintroducing the Family First Act. This was a sign of the Congress’ commitment to supporting children, their families and the thousands of young people in the foster care system.

FosterClub was pleased to see that 13 months later on Monday, February 5, 2018, the Family First Act appeared to, once again, rise from the grave. As we have seen in the past, the Family First Act has proven to be a piece of legislation that has many advocates concerned about the implications of this becoming public law. FosterClub, ultimately, is more concerned about the implications of this not passing. We don’t know much now, but the Family First Prevention Services Act is still within our grasp and we will be sure to keep you all updated as we learn more.
