Opportunity

FosterClub, through its partnership with Casey Family Programs, is offering an exclusive opportunity for an individual with lived experience. This opportunity will provide an individual with hands-on experience and the ability to develop and gain cultural competence in the field of child welfare. Additionally, this position will aid in the development of the selected individual’s professional and leadership skills.

FosterClub believes that child welfare will benefit from having highly trained/intensely supported emerging young professionals who have lived experience in the foster care system.  Emerging young leaders from foster care are more successful if provided skills that take into account their lived experience, and are provided 1:1 coaching and access to networks of national child welfare stakeholders.

Through their national partnerships, Casey Family Programs works with a variety of organizations to improve the welfare of youth in the foster care system. These partnerships focus on various topics related to child welfare. They include efforts to improve the practice of child welfare, support child development research, and promote innovative approaches to child welfare.

Who

FosterClub is seeking an Individual with prior lived experience in child welfare. This person is expected to be a self-motivated and collaborative individual who wants to be a part of a team and bring about real and substantive change in the child welfare system.

The selected associate is also expected to have demonstrated project management skills, including the use of web-based platforms to manage projects in teams. Additionally, strong data and information management skills, including the use of spreadsheets and digital filing systems are also encouraged for the role.

Desired Experience and Skills:

  •     Bachelors or master’s degree in public policy, social work, or a human service-related field, or equivalent experience
  •     Experience creating content, proofreading and editing written communication for youth audiences
  •     Knowledge of intersectionality of child welfare and other child, youth, and family-serving systems, along with an understanding of how marginalized populations are disproportionately impacted by the child welfare system
  •     Work experience that includes youth organizing, positive youth development, and/or trauma-informed services
  •     Demonstrated skills using social media, blogging, and other campaign and communications tools.


What Associate Will Do


The selected associate will participate in a four-month, full-time (approximately 40 hours weekly) opportunity that, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, will remain completely remote for the duration of the position. The assigned associate will have a variety of responsibilities and tasks meant to provide the individual with exposure across Casey Family Programs and its partners.

Some of the tasks include, but are not limited to:

● Take attendance on the bi-weekly partner calls
● Manage note taking and resource list for relevant partner calls
● Communicate with national partners on current service authorizations including updating spending amounts against current agreements and tracking new authorizations
● Manage scheduling calls for Family Voices United KM Lived Experience Advisory Team. This includes holding times until confirmed and releasing un-needed holds.
● Update spreadsheet of constituent engagements
● Develop mechanism to track service authorizations, constituent engagement and the impact.
● Schedule calls across multiple partners / time zones, etc.
● Manage internal quarterly Casey-wide calls including internal communication, scheduling, note-taking and follow-up.


Compensation & Benefits

    Stipend: $2,291.67 (bi-weekly) | $4,583.34 (monthly)

    Monthly Telecom Reimbursement: (up to $100 per month)
    Required equipment for role: computer, necessary software, headset, etc.
    Appropriate Training (if necessary)

The identified lived experience associate will gain invaluable experience in child welfare by working with established industry partners to advance the field. By incorporating innovative and inclusive practices, this associate will be able to see firsthand how industry leaders are transforming child welfare at the national and federal level daily.
