Sarah spent 7 years in the Rhode Island foster care system. After aging out, she began work on a Bachelor’s of Social Work at Rhode Island College. She has spoken on multiple panels at the state house to advocate for continued funding of aftercare services that support youth who age out of care. As part of her schooling, she has worked as an Intern in the ASPIRE program at Foster Forward, as well as the Works Wonders program and Real Connections mentoring program. Sarah is also a Young Fellow for the Jim Casey Youth Opportunities Initiative and a Young Adult Consultant for The Children’s Bureau and the Capacity Building Center for States. As part of these roles, Sarah has participated in many conferences and events, working with JCYOI, ACF, NYTD, and NRCYD and NRCYS. Sarah is a committed young leader and will be graduating with her Bachelors in Social Work in May of 2015. After graduation, she will start a full time career in social work and will use her position to advocate for youth in care.
