Nikalette Briscoe spent 9 years in Maryland's foster care system.

Nikalette spent 6 years in Maryland’s foster care system. She experienced several types of placements from kinship care to group homes and finally a foster home till she aged out at 21. In her placements Nikalette never felt like she had a voice. Now, she works to give youth a voice by serving as a peer mentor and advocate for multiple private child welfare agencies. She also volunteers her time at foster care training conferences. She currently attends the University of Maryland School of Social work as a graduate student pursuing a master’s degree in Social Work. She has received several academic accolades including a Trio achievement award and entry into the Phi Alpha Honor Society.
