Melanie Schafer has been in relative care for the five years she was in the California Foster Care system. She is 22 years old and currently is on track to complete her AA in Psychology next Spring. From there she plans on transferring to San Diego State University to complete her undergraduate degree and become a licensed marriage and family therapist. She hopes that she can use her experiences in the foster care system to help other youth succeed and know that they can turn any bad experience into a positive outcome. Melanie believes that the best people to share her story with is other youth because she wants to empower them and let them know they are not alone because they are the future. Melanie is a swimmer, beach volleyball player, a choir singer... and a foster kid.
