Maggie Boone spent 4 years in Delaware's foster care system.

Maggie Boone is a strong and independent young leader who spent about 4 years in Delaware’s foster care system. Through placement changes and lost connections with family members, Maggie became more determined than ever to fulfill the needs of youth in care nationwide. Her advocacy activities include serving on Delaware’s Youth Advisory Council, providing testimony at legislative hearings, and serving children with disabilities through Best Buddies, a not for profit mentoring organization.

Recently, Maggie was named the Foster Youth of the Month for June and July in her home state, and was named as an Outstanding Young Leader in Fosterclub’s annual recognition of the nation’s most ambitious and compassionate foster youth. She currently serves as an intern with Criminal Justice Council, where she hopes to gain the knowledge and experience needed to pursue a career in juvenile justice. The crossover between the child welfare and juvenile justice systems often causes a lapse in the specialty care that these vulnerable youth need. Maggie hopes to become a support network for these youth in care, and encourage them to use their voices to affect positive change.
