The Pacific Northwest and Portland, Oregon are home to Kelsey Collins. She has been in four foster homes over the past five years. Her nominator credits Kelsey with “a great sense of humor and a strong sense of duty and community.” She presents a positive attitude and a sense of motivation. Kelsey participated in The Pangaea Project—all-earth/world—empowering youth from low income families to become agents of change in both their communities and in a broader world. Kelsey traveled to Ecuador with the Mt. Scott Learning Center and volunteered in community service projects. She has her sights set on programs such as Americorps or the Peace Corps and points toward working in projects related to the environment including wilderness setting as well as with children. Other interests include traveling and baking. Kelsey has worked with the Northwest Youth Corps, a program that combines job training with outdoor adventures and has focused especially on trail restoration and maintenance. She currently is a member of the Green Team at her training site, Portland Youth Builders.
