Michigan Foster Care System 

 

Jayonna Yahsha, spent over ten years in Michigan's foster care system including placements in foster homes, getting adopted and then placed back in the system until she aged out into voluntary foster care. 

 

Jayonna would describe her experience in the system as transformative and credits her relationship with God for her growth. She can be quoted saying "I wouldn't be the person I am (becoming) today without experiencing all that I did". 

 

Nowadays Jayonna works for a non-profit organization called River Jordan as a house manager assisting current and former foster youth in peer support services, learning their rights, transitional housing and navigating the foster care system. Jayonna is also a member of the Michigan Youth Opportunity Initiative, a home health aide and a college student studying social work.
