Erika spent 4 years in Texas' foster care system.
Erika entered the foster care system at age 14. Since then, she has been in multiple placements. She transferred to five different high schools and has been in foster homes, group homes, shelters, and residential treatment centers. Erika overcame the stigma placed upon her for being a foster youth and graduated high school in the top 25% of her graduating class. She is currently attending Midwestern State University in Texas, and spends most of her time studying and working on campus. Her goal is to become an Oncologist and practice medicine at University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston.
Erika is a student, a sister, a dreamer, and a former foster youth.
