Emelancia N

She/Her/Hers

21 Years Old

New York

“My unique experiences have given me the desire to help others who have been through similar problems physically or mentally. I have found that my experiences have taught me the ability to relate to people who feel alone.”

Emelancia lost her mother at a young age, and by the age of six was taking on responsibilities to care for her family. Looking back, she knows that part of her childhood was taken away. She entered the foster care system after immigrating to the United States, and now works in human services.

Emelancia wants to be a mentor for foster children, or a social worker who checks homes to ensure that foster children are in a safe environment and do not experience some of the same things she did. She knows the value of having someone to talk to and trust, and wants to be that person for other kids in the foster care system.
