Michigan Foster Care System

Daysha Reed grew up in Michigan as the oldest child of a family from the U.S. Virgin Islands. After entering foster care, she continued to college as a first-generation college student where she received a Bachelor of Arts in Child Development and Cultural and Global Studies from Central Michigan University in 2021. They just finished her AmeriCorps service year, serving at an organization focused on labor organizing and supporting the immigrant community in Nashville, Tennessee.

 

Daysha has a great interest in the liberation of Black and Brown communities, LGBTQIA rights, disability rights, and children’s rights. She is passionate about sharing her story to advocate for the betterment of foster youth. She was a 2021 FosterClub Intern and is a National Youth in Transition Database Reviewer. They hope to learn more about the array of experiences foster youth have in the US through the National Foster Youth Alumni Policy Council.

 

Daysha hopes to attend college again in the next couple of years to pursue a Master’s degree in Public Policy. In her free time, they enjoy listening to music, playing video games, watching bad scary movies, having thought-provoking discussions, and connecting with her friends.
