Ashley Hovey, 20, Virginia’s Foster Care System



Ashley entered care at the age of 5. She experienced two different placements. She has two biological brothers; they were all adopted together in a loving home.



Ashley is a leader in a Christian organization called Campus Crusade for Christ, also known as Cru. Cru is a Christian parachurch organization for college and university students. Their vision is to share the good news of the gospel with people all over. Ashley’s role is to plan and organize community-oriented events that help bring fellowship within the city. In her spare time, Ashley enjoys playing the piano, reading and attending Bible study on campus.



This past fall, Ashley traveled to Baltimore Maryland for a winter conference through Cru. Where she met people living on the streets and struggling to survive the cold. In 2016, she took part in a Relay for Life Pageant. The purpose of the pageant was to spread knowledge of cancer. She received the Miss Relay For Life 2016 Monticello High School AVID (Advanced Via Individual Determination) Work Place Readiness Skills Certification.



“Being part of Cru has changed my life and allowed me to step out into the world and learn about different life experiences. I also have learned that as an adopted child, in an all-white family, there are others who go through tough times and have differences in their family.”
